The most emotional and magnificent event of the coming autumn at the Sea Gate Theatre will be the visit of the Estonian Vanemuine Theatre with the ballet performance "Lifelong Love Story. Rain in December", inspired by the life and music of Frederic Chopin.

The ballet “A Lifetime Love Story. Rain in December” depicts the love story between Frédéric Chopin and Georges Sand, a prominent writer who needed to use a male pseudonym to succeed in the literary world of 19th-century France. The performance features Chopin’s piano music, which is performed by a pianist during the performance, just like in a concert.

“Lifelong Love Story. Rain in December” is not a performance with grandiose decorations, but rather a delicate, chamber-style work in which the aesthetics of classical dance are refreshed by the dynamics of modern dance. The story played out in the performance is about specific historical figures, so it is important that the dancers have managed to give the characters human warmth, and not just technically perform the steps. The movements are fluid, emotionally charged and very aesthetic. In turn, the scenography and lights of the performance create a Nordic, slightly melancholic, but at the same time very intimate atmosphere.

The author of the idea, director, choreographer and set designer of the performance is former Hamburg Ballet dancer Kristīna Paulīna. The premiere of the new choreographer's ballet "Rain in December" took place in 2022 at the Salzburg "Landestheater". The Vanemuine Theatre production has a newly developed second act, which pays special attention to Chopin's inner world. The new performance premiered in Estonia two years later, celebrating the 85th anniversary of the Vanemuine Theatre.

“I find all of Chopin's compositions personal, fragile and very delicate. Listening to his music, you can truly feel the presence of his soul – he dedicated his entire life to art. It is through this art that he will remain with us forever. The main focus of the performance is the most significant events in the life of Frédéric Chopin and his relationship and love for the French writer Georges Sand,” reveals Kristīna Paulīna.

The Vanemuine Theatre will be visiting the Theatre House “Jūras vārti” with the ballet “Lifelong Love Story. Rain in December” on Thursday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be available for purchase at all “Biļešu paradīze” sales points starting Friday, February 13, and a special promotion will be available for the first two days – tickets will be available for purchase with a 20% discount!
