On Saturday, August 26, at 9:00 PM, on the steep bank of Staldzene, we invite you to experience the magic of the “Night of Ancient Fire” in an unprecedented form. Symbolizing the essence of the sea and its diverse nature, visitors will be able to enjoy a specially created video installation throughout the evening, filmed on 16mm black-and-white negative film. Its author is Elīna Matvejeva. We will enjoy mood music performed by singer Alise Joste. Known and lesser-known musical memories will be provided by the group “JUUK” – consisting of Edgars Šubrovskis, Sniedze Prauliņa and Oskars Jansons. In turn, electronic ambient romance will be provided by Ieva Matveja.
Alise Joste has been active on the Latvian music scene for over 10 years, and during that time has released three critically acclaimed and award-winning albums. On the evening of August 26, Alise will perform both songs from her latest album “Šākātā” and older compositions.
The group “JUUK” is a collaboration of well-known musicians from the alternative scene, united by a passion for alternative, dark folk and country music – music that is rarely heard in Latvia. Unlike many other groups, the group “JUUK” has three songwriters and soloists – Sniedze Prauliņa (vocals, flute), Edgars Šubrovskis (vocals, guitars, bass) and Oskars Jansons (vocals, guitars, banjo).
Ieva Matveja will close the evening with refreshing electronic sounds. As the artist herself describes it – ambient romanticism, an atmospheric soundscape for gentle contemplation.
In order to ensure that a wider range of residents can get to the “Night of Ancient Fire” event on the steep bank of Staldzene, PSIA “Ventspils Reiss” will organize an additional bus trip at 20.30 from the Ābolu street stop in Gāliņciems. The return trip on the Staldzene – Ābolu street route will be at 23.50.
But for those who have access to bicycle transportation, we invite you to come to the event using the newly created bike path, which extends from the city all the way to the steep bank of the Staldzene River.
The event is organized by the Ventspils Culture Center and supported by the Ventspils City Municipality.
The event is taking place with the support of the project competition "Courland Culture Program 2023" of the State Cultural Capital Fund's target program "Latvian Historical Lands Development Program".
