On Sunday, March 8, at 3:00 p.m., the Ventspils city and regional folk dance collectives will hold a joint concert “Rotājies, Kurzeme!” at the “Jūras vārti” theater house, where viewers are invited to enjoy the joy of dance, the spring mood, and the sense of community among Kurzeme dancers.
Dancers of different generations will meet on stage, performing both audience-favorite and brand-new choreographies. The concert will be a celebration for both dancers and spectators, marking the beginning of spring and the power of creative collaboration among Ventspils dance groups, as well as cooperation with the guest group – the VEF Culture Palace Folk Dance Ensemble “Rotaļa”.
The concert will be centered around dance groups from Ventspils and the region, who will form the core of the event with their energy, mastery and passion. The audience will have the opportunity to see the youth dance groups “Strautuguns” (led by Agnese Sarma) and “Liedags” (led by Inga Liepiņa), the middle-generation dance groups “Ance” (led by Elita Kuģeniece), “Usma” (Agnese Sarma), “Tārgale” (Daiga Kņaza), “Vāruve” (Dace Pūpoliņa), “Strautuguns” (Zane Kalniņa), “Liedags” (Inga Liepiņa) and “Kurzeme” (Indra Zarane), as well as the senior dance groups “Ance” (Elita Kuģeniece) and “SenKurzeme” (Indra Zarane). The concert will also feature guests – TDA “Rotaļa” (artistic director Diāna Gavare).
For the youth dance groups “Liedags” and “Strautuguns”, this concert is an important interim evaluation, as this year both groups are preparing to participate in the II Youth Dance Festival in Liepāja. The concert will be attended by the dance director, who will provide final recommendations and corrections before the show organized by the Latvian National Culture Center in Liepāja on March 14, therefore the event has a significant professional significance in the preparation process of the groups.
For middle-aged and senior dance groups, the concert will be an opportunity to gain valuable stage experience in preparation for the annual dance show, which will take place on April 26th.
The special guest of the concert is the Folk Dance Ensemble “Rotaļa”, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary this season. The audience will have the opportunity to see fragments from the ensemble's anniversary concert performance “Zaro!”, which will premiere in Ventspils.
