The Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia will be celebrated in Town Hall Square on 4 May at 12.00. This year’s celebration is special because it also marks twenty years since Latvia became a full member of the European Union, forging close ties and strengthening our place among European and global communities. To mark the occasion, the people of Ventspils have together woven a twenty-metre-long White Tablecloth, which will be laid on a festive table in Town Hall Square.

Everyone is invited to join the celebrations with the Ventspils Culture Centre Women’s Choir “Venda”, Ventspils Wind Orchestra, folk dance groups “Kurzeme”, “Senkurzeme”, middle generation dance group “Strautuguns” and guests – singer and actress Karīna Tatarinova and musicians Robert Dinters, Mika Akota and Kristiāns Lindenblats. Together with Karina Tatarinova and the musicians, Latvia’s best women’s choir has created a special programme of well-known songs for everyone to sing along to. The event will also be attended by youth guards from Ventspils Parventa Primary School, Primary 2 and Secondary 2. As one big family, we will celebrate Latvia’s Independence Day in proud joy for our country.
